Remembering Amy Winehouse

This is a remembrance tribute to the late great
                  AMY WINEHOUSE,
Who's music still rules the airwaves of our radio stations today! So here is some info about her.

             Amy Winehouse

OCCUPATION: Entrepreneur, Songwriter, Singer
BIRTH DATE: September 14, 1983
DEATH DATE: July 23, 2011
EDUCATION: Sylvia Young Theatre School
PLACE OF BIRTH: Southgate, London, England, United Kingdom
PLACE OF DEATH: Camden, London, England, United Kingdom
FULL NAME: Amy Jade Winehouse
AKA: Amy Winehouse
BEST KNOWN FOR
for winning five Grammy Awards for her 2006 album Back to Black, and is remembered for songs like "Rehab," "Back to Black" and "Valerie."

Born in London, England, on September 14, 1983, Amy Winehouse broke into the music business when, at age 16, a classmate passed on her demo tape. She signed her first record deal as a jazz vocalist, and her music later blossomed into an eclectic mix of jazz, pop, soul and R&B. Winehouse won five Grammy Awards for her 2006 album Back to Black, and earned acclaim for songs like "Rehab," "Back to Black" and "Valerie." Winehouse died tragically on July 23, 2011, at the age of 27,

Early Career

Amy Jade Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983, in the suburb of Southgate in London, England. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, worked as a cab driver, while mother Janis was employed as a pharmacist. Winehouse's upbringing was surrounded by jazz; many of her uncles on her mother's side were professional jazz musicians, and her grandmother was once romantically involved with British jazz legend Ronnie Scott. Because of this musical background, Winehouse grew up listening to a diverse range of music, from James Taylor to Sarah Vaughan. At the age of 10, she became drawn to the rebellious spirit of TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and other American R&B and hip-hop acts, and founded a short-lived amateur rap group called Sweet 'n Sour.

At the age of 12, Winehouse was accepted into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, and a year later she received her first guitar. But by the age of 16, Winehouse was expelled for "not applying herself" and piercing her nose. That same year, she caught her first big break when a schoolmate and close friend, pop singer Tyler James, passed her demo tape to his label, A&R, who was searching for a jazz vocalist. The opportunity led her to a record deal with Island/Universal.

Her debut album, Frank (2003), was a critically acclaimed mixture of jazz, pop, soul, and hip-hop. The album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize as well as two BRIT awards for Best Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Act. The debut single on the album, "Stronger Than Me," earned the new artist an Ivor Novello award. Frank also hit double platinum status.

During this time, Winehouse began developing a reputation as an unstable party girl, often showing up to her club or TV performances too drunk to sing a whole set. She also started a tumultuous, on-again-off-again relationship with music video assistant, Blake Fielder-Civil, who admitted to introducing Winehouse to hard drugs. In public, the couples' arguments often devolved into fist-fights and dramatic scenes. In private, their romance centred around drugs, alcohol, physical abuse and even self-harm.

International Star

By 2006, her management company finally suggested that Winehouse enter rehab for alcohol abuse. Instead, she dumped the company and turned the experience into the lead single for her second, critically acclaimed, album, Back to Black (2006). The song "Rehab," which discussed her refusal to receive treatment for substance abuse, became an instant Top 10 hit in the United Kingdom, and earned the artist another Ivor Novello award for best contemporary song. Amy Winehouse still lives in our hearts and is sadly missed by the  music industry !

ABOUT
Sounds Like: Tarja Turunen, Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Evenescence

Label: Unisgned

Manager: Independent

Bio: Welcome to Dark Beauty

In a music scene where cookie cutter performers claim to be unique, Dark Beauty combines elements of dance, rock, opera, theatre and world music into a true one-of-a-kind experience. The band’s classically influenced Gothic alternative progressive rock gives fans a way to stretch their ears and experience styles and mixtures of music that they’ve never heard before.

Lead Vocalist and Songwriter Liz Tapia began this journey back in 2009 when she wrote and recorded the first song from the project “Save Yourself.” The song mixed a Middle Eastern beat with Santana-esque guitars, Gothic lyrics and a soaring melody, beseeching a lover to turn away before it was too late. The song became instantly popular with fans of many musical styles, leading her to pursue the project and its main character on a grander scale.

Dark Beauty has since become a concept album depicting the tragic tale of the Dark Angel, and her tragic tale fall from grace. Banished from heaven she is pulled down from grace above, falling deep into the woods of the dark primeval forest. With a broken wing she now rules an old abandoned castle, containing secret passages, hidden staircases, and ruined sections.

Liz is a lyric coloratura soprano, whose smooth, warm, versatile voice adds infinite textures to the epic music she writes and performs. Her background in acting, film and musical theatre all affect the musical scope and cinematic feel of her work. As complex as the music is, Liz knew the band would require the highest level of musicians possible to fulfil the full potential of her project!

Bryan Zeigler was the first member to join the Dark Beauty team as lead guitarist and co-writer. His years of experience with a multitude of progressive rock bands, as well as knowledge of the music business and arrangement skills were a perfect match. Soon after came the musical talents and versatility of master Drummer/Percussionist Dan Granda, who added a perfect combination of strength and finesse needed to stylize the epic story.

Gary Perkinson joined on bass, lending his classical skills, super easy going personality and wonderful musicianship, to anchor the band with Dan.

Dark Beauty is currently getting airplay by several stations hitting high marks on all charts and growing rapidly. The album is being engineered and produced by Artie Rodriguez, and the first album's release date is TBA.

Dark Beauty’s official website is: www.DarkBeautyMusic.com and you can email: Liz Tapia at liztapiamusic@gmail.com.

We wish this band the best of luck for the future and hope to hear them in the UK soon!

Remembering Screaming Lord Sutch ( 1960s Band )

It was a dark stormy night, And the wind was
howling through the tree's, And the captain said to his mate, Mate; Tell us a story, And the mate begun.....No seriously , Back in the 1960s was a Band called  Screaming Lord Sutch , Who made lots of songs at Joe Meek's Holloway rd Studio, His outrageous songs were peculiar but good, He had a way of making his records sound haunting and quiet frightening on some of them! So here goes , The story of Screaming LORD SUTCH & The Savages !....

David Edward Sutch
Born 10 November 1940
Hampstead, London, England
Died 16 June 1999 (aged 58)
South Harrow, Greater London, England
Occupation Musician, perennial candidate

Artist Biography by Richie Unterberger

He couldn't properly be considered part of the British Invasion -- he never had a hit in the U.S. or the U.K. -- but Screaming Lord Sutch laid some unheralded groundwork for the phenomenon. With a rock & horror act based to a large degree on Screamin' Jay Hawkins, David "Lord" Sutch was one of the first genuine rock & roll longhairs, and his bands employed such sterling instrumentalists as Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Nicky Hopkins, and Mitch Mitchell before they became famous. His early-'60s singles -- mostly over-the-top Halloween novelties or covers of early rock and R&B standards -- are genuinely energetic and fun performances that rank among the few out-and-out raunchy rock & roll records waxed in Britain before the ascension of the Beatles. Twiddling the knobs on his first five singles was the legendarily eccentric Joe Meek, who embellished Sutch's modest talents with his usual grab bag of treated instruments, compression, and odd effects. While he holds a position of undeniable importance in the history of British rock, Sutch was not a talented singer or musician, and the records he made after the mid-'60s were pretty lame despite the presence of some stars who remembered him fondly (and had even sometimes played in his band in the old days). A well-known public figure in Britain, he ran for Parliament several times in the '60s, representing the National Teenage Party, and he founded the pirate radio station Radio Sutch in 1964. He published his autobiography in the early '90s.

Radio Sutch is still on air today on the internet , and every Monday night at 9 pm , The Joe Meek hour plays lots of records by Screaming Lord Sutch, It is a great show & I urge you to listen to it ! What a great Radio station indeed !

1960s Singer Helen Shapiro

When I was just a lad of 11 years old, I had a crush on a young girl Singer, Her name is 1960s pop star Helen Shapiro, She sung songs like..Walking back to happiness, You don't know, And many more, Her voice was low and husky and unusual at that time, I thought she was great! So lets read about her bellow .......
Helen Shapiro

Helen Shapiro, whose singles 'Don't Treat Me Like a Child', 'You Don't Know', 'Walking Back to Happiness' and 'Tell Me What He Said' sent her soaring to international stardom at the tender age of fourteen, has been going strong ever since 1961!

Helen is a highly respected jazz singer. As well as singing with her own band, she performed with the likes of Humphrey Lyttelton and his band from 1983 to 2001, and also with the BBC Big Band. Helen has also been in demand as a pantomime principal boy and appeared in many stage musicals. In May 1995 she was the 'gob-smacked' subject of 'This Is Your Life' on BBC TV.

In August 1987 Helen became a committed believer in Jesus. Several months of searching the Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament, and seeing their fulfilment in the New Testament, culminated in her being opened to the truth of Jesus as Saviour of the world and the promised Messiah of her own Jewish people.

In 1989 Helen held the first of many Gospel Evenings to coincide with the release of her first gospel album 'The Pearl'. This album, along with her second gospel album 'Kadosh'(Holy) proved to be a very big seller. At these 'Gospel Outreaches', as they are now called, allow Helen to present her challenging story. She begins by singing a selection of worship songs for approximately 15 minutes, aided by live accompaniment. She then follows on to tell about how she came to faith in Jesus. This time of testimony is interspersed with songs (including the ever-popular 'Walking Back to Happiness') sung to backing tracks. She concludes the evening with a powerful, personal Gospel challenge.

In 1993, Helen's autobiography entitled 'Walking Back to Happiness' (what else!) was published by Harper Collins and Helen has held outreaches to the USA, South Africa and Russia. Helen's 1995 gospel album entitled 'Nothing But The Best' includes a duet with Cliff Richard and her fourth gospel album, entitled 'Enter Into His Gates' was also a big seller.

Most of the tracks from all four gospel albums have now been put on a double CD entitled 'The Gospel Collection'. Helen's newest gospel album (released in 2010) is called 'What Wondrous Love Is This' and is her first gospel release in 12 years!

Helen now devotes herself solely to her Gospel Outreaches, having come out of show business at the end of 2002, after 42 years of touring. May God Bless you Helen, She is still a legend as far as I am concerned, What do you think about her?

Joe Bonamassa fab guitarist USA

Hi , This article is about one of the worlds best guitarist , His name is JOE BONAMASSA from the USA, His latest album ( Available on free download) Is a fabulous piece of musical masterpiece, The songs are : I know where I B... : Mountain Time : The River :Bridge to Better... :One of these days : The ballad of John Henry :Blue and Evil :Dust Bowl : Driving Towards... : Slow Train .All of these songs have great vocals and outstanding guitar work on all tracks, So read his Bio bellow...

Artist Biography by MacKenzie Wilson
A New Day Yesterday Guitar mastermind Joe Bonamassa, a young player with the childhood dream of playing music similar to legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, was 22 when he inked a deal with Epic. Hailing from Utica, New York, Bonamassa could play the blues before he could drive a car. He first heard Stevie Ray Vaughan at age four and was instantly taken by Vaughan's high-powered playing. At age eight, he opened for B.B. King, and at age 12, he was playing regularly around upstate New York. It was soon thereafter that Bonamassa hooked up with the band Bloodline, which featured other musicians' sons: Waylon Krieger (Robby Krieger's son), Erin Davis (Miles Davis' drummer kid), and Berry Oakley, Jr. (son of the Allman Brothers bassist). Bloodline released a self-titled album, but Bonamassa wanted to move on. In summer 2000 he guested for Roger McGuinn on Jethro Tull's summer tour, later releasing his debut solo album, A New Day Yesterday. Produced by longtime fan Tom Dowd, the album marked a move toward a more organic and rock-sounding direction. He put together a power trio with drummer Kenny Kramme and bassist Eric Czar and hit the road to support the album.

So, It's Like That Upon returning from the road, he hooked up with Dowd to record the muscular and sweeping studio disc So, It's Like That and released a document of the tour, A New Day Yesterday Live. The following year, Bonamassa put out Blues Deluxe, featuring nine cover versions of blues classics alongside three originals. The muscular You & Me appeared in 2006, followed by the more acoustic-tinged Sloe Gin in 2007. A year later, Bonamassa released the two-disc live album Live from Nowhere in Particular, followed in 2009 by The Ballad of John Henry. Late in 2009 he released the DVD Live from the Royal Albert Hall with guest spots from Eric Clapton and Paul Jones. In 2010, the guitarist released his first disc for the Premier Artists label, Black Rock, featuring a guest appearance by B.B. King. It was followed by the debut album from Black Country Communion, a blues-rock supergroup which put him in the company of bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, drummer Jason Bonham, and keyboardist Derek Sherinian. Bonamassa, ever the overachiever, released his earthy Dust Bowl in March of 2011, followed by Black Country Communion's 2 in June and by his unique collaboration with vocalist Beth Hart on a searing collection of soul covers entitled Don't Explain in September. In May of 2012, Bonamassa released Driving Towards the Daylight. The album reunited the guitarist with producer Kevin Shirley, who brought in Aerosmith's Brad Whitford to play rhythm guitar on the 11 tracks. Driving Towards the Daylight was a significant blues hit -- it topped the Billboard blues charts and debuted at number two on the overall British charts -- and Bonamassa didn't slow down. Early in 2013, he released a live CD/DVD set called An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House and prepared a new studio album scheduled for release later in 2013.

I have actually downloaded Joe's free album , And I must say that I will be adding it to my Rock & Blues collection of music, What a fab sound ! Thank yo Joe and keep on Rockin'
