R&B Singer / Songwriter Makeida

Just as I thought it was safe to look on you tube' I came across a sexy lady called Makeida, She is a R&B Singer / Songwriter who has a heavenly voice!, Her songs are , Sugar Love, My Intuition, and , Fly , This is just three of her fabulous songs, So check her out, By the way, The person who said that it was a bad recording must have something wrong with their ears ! These songs sound great ! I wish I could have heard her when she first started, Still, You can't have all your own way ! Anyway , Check this lady out ! I don't normally do R&B, But this is great stuff!

Singer/songwriter Lorraine Davies

Hi, Its me again,And Yes' I got a follow from a Country Singer / Songwriter Lorraine Davies, So I visited her website And lo and behold another great singer with a great sounding band ! It was a breath of fresh air to hear her songs as they rang from country ballads to country Rock ! Well' The sound of this lady is 100% pure music to your ears ! Songs are as follows, Smoke Screen( a touch like Shania Twain) , Fly like you've got wings ( Country Ballad),I love being wrong ( country rock ) , And , Me and my man ( country rock) this is only a small sellection from her album , So go check it out ! There is really nice guitars and keyboards on her recordings , The whole sound makes you listen once you hear one song! Her album is called, "A chance for me ", Nice one Lorraine .

The Beatles

This is a story of a group of four guys from Liverpool, It begun in the early 1960s, These four boys got together after a few changes here and there, And so was born The Beatles, Their fabulous sound soon made them the most famous band in the history of music! Just in case you are too young to know who the Beatles were, here goes' John Lennon(Rhythm guitar / vocal) George Harrison(Lead guitar / vocals) Paul McCartney(Bass / vocals) Ringo Star(Drums / vocal) They had tons of hit records including  Please please me, She loves you, A hard days night, Get Back, Back in the USSR, Sgt Peppers lonely hearts club band, Black bird, The list goes on and on, The band were a great success until John Lennon's Death in 1980 he was shot dead in the USA. Their music will never be forgotten, Also the music that they wrote can be played in any style that you want to, It sounds good as Jazz, Pop, Classical, Monologue etc, That's how versatile the Beatles were, In fact, Although the music and lyrics were written by Lennon and McCartney, Since John's Death, Paul has Written a whole stack of songs ,He went on to form Wings and had more hits like Jet, Band on the run, to mention just a couple! Paul is still playing concerts etc even now! What a musical career he has had !

Girls Generation

Girls generation are a band of nine girls, They sound really good , And look sexy ,Another bonus for us guys! Their Album (The Boys) which is the same name as the single, Is a nice pop sound that is good honest music, Check them out on you tube, That is where I saw them, These girls are going to be big !

The fabulous BLONDIE

You know' One of my favourite bands was BLONDIE, Right through their career , They never made a bad record!  Lead by Debbie Harry on vocals, Blondie had a host of hits like Heart of glass, Denis, The tide is high, Sunday Girl, Rapture, Atomic is just to name but a few'  Blondie was made up of, Debbie Harry(vocals) Clem Burke(drums)Jimmy Destri(keyboards)Nigel Harrison(bass)&Frank Infant(guitar) Chris Stein(guitar), Together they made a revolutionary sound in the early 70s right through the 80s etc, Debbie's Sexy looks and voice helped to make most of their records to become hits ! Sadly there is not a band that can replace Blondie as they had such a unique sound !

Six Barrel Syndicate Rock Band

Well its happened yet again' Got a tweet from a band called SIX BARREL SYNDICATE, Well I tell you, They remind me of my band that I played in the early 70s, What a fabulous sound, Hard Rockin' good all round music to your ears! They are a Danish band from Aarhus, And boy do they ROCK! The members are, Richard Schuster ( Lead vocal ) Buster Kristenson ( Lead guitar/ Vocals) Bue Lovso(Rhythm guitar/ Vocals)

Jakob Trolle (Bass/ Vocals) and Adam Lovso (Drums/ Vocals, Their song ( Ride Along) has a great sound ,and is well played and sung! Check this band out, I think they will be Big '

Joe Meek The Telstar Man

Back in 1966, I have bloged this bit before, I was at 304 Holloway Road N7, Above a shop called Shenton's in a recording studio called RGM sound
where the legendary Joe Meek recorded all his hits, I was there to try to become a recording engineer, Joe Meek was a man who was very good with sounds, Strangely, He could not sing in tune,But he knew a good sound when he heard it!
He produced bands like the Tornado's, the Honeycombs, the Checkmates, the Blue Rondo's, and a number of solo artists such as Heinz Bert , Dave Berry, John Leyton just to mention a few.

His sound engineering was second to none , When you think that the  equipment was a bit crude and only in mono, He was a genius when it came to writing and producing music ! Only 2 months before his tragic death, We were discussing about making a comic record in reply to twinkle song Terry, That is as far as the conversation went as he died before I had the time to think about it! In the pictures you can see some of the equipment that was used in his studio, Joe Meek will always be remembered ! Joe Meek died  3 Feb 1967, For the short time that I knew him , I was impressed with his work! Since I wrote this entry, I have watched the film ( Telstar - The story of Joe Meek ), Well they got a lot of the facts right but one or two things were not quiet right, Examples are, The Echo unit in the film was a Binson,When in actual fact the echo unit that he actually used was a Klempt Echolette, I know this as he gave the unit to me in payment for doing bits of this and that in the studio, Unfortunately I did not keep it ,I wish I had as it would be worth a fortune now! Another thing is that the main mic on the film was an AEG mic,Buy in fact he used a more robust studio mic with spring loaded stand attachment a bit like the ones that are still used today! The other thing was in the film Mr Pink was called Patric, His actual name was William Pink. There were also some other bits of equipment that was probably not available for the film , Apart from that the film is reasonably good !

Madonna Still sexy and singing !

I remember the time when i first heard MADONNA'  I was working in a TV rental store in Catford  SE6 Called Carousel Colorhire, I was in the Showroom ,And on one of the TV sets played Like a virgin'  Wow" What a song I thought, From that day on I have been a big fan, And the funny thing is that she is still making great recordings even though she is in her 50s, And to crown it all , She is still very sexy.

Culver Heavy Rock Band

My attention has been drawn to a band called the
CULVER  Heavy Progressive Rock Band !  I must say they have a very distinctive sound indeed ' The thing is , There are only three members in this band, And the sound is really full !  The song called ( Indicator ) is just Devinne music and has got great  bass & guitar riffs, An interesting sound indeed '  Members are  Andrew Cruz ( Guitar / vocal ) Josh Spatafore (Bass/ Backing vocals) & Benjamin Pedula ( Drums) You can reach these guys on their website at

Hardcore old school

I remember back in the early 90s when I was DJing in a club in Woolwich Dockyard called 40s, The club only opened on Friday & Saturday night, But It was always packed out, I was Playing & promoting Hardcore ie: Prodigy  XL Records , Black Diamond records was another etc, What used to annoy me was that other people used to shun hardcore and say that it was not real music, But I tell you, It took a lot of hard work to put some of those trax together, I know because I have tried it Not successfully I may add, At this time , I was on 17 mailing lists  and also doing Radio at GCRM in the McBeen Centre in Woolworth, I was doing 5 shows per week and as it was community radio , I had a good selection of Club Music to offer my listeners. That was a great era for Club music as it was very popular and some of that sound has returned in today's music market! I still to this day have a great selection of vinyl & I am very reluctant to get rid of it, BRING BACK VINYL, Its better than Cd's !

SKULL KING ROCK BAND

Just as I thought it was safe to look at my mail, I suddenly discovered an E-mail telling me about a
band called SKULL KING, Wow ! I had to listen to this band, So I went to their website as yo do, And after listening to a few songs , I must say I am glad I did ! SKULL KING  are a Progressive Metal Rock band which are from Chicago, Formed in 2010 a relatively new band, But they are great'   Members are, Nick Di Nardo ( vocals ) Paul Button ( guitar) Clifford Hunt ( Bass ) and Brian Printy ( drums ), They sound a bit like Motorhead but with much better vocal with great wild guitar solo's , They have a good beat with an exciting sound! Songs include , Punching water,  Whistleblower, Never, A price to pay, Separate ways , Not one more day,  All these songs have been well written and produced' I think we will hear a lot from SCULL KING in the future , So look out for them !   

Cupla Rock Band

I have noticed a band that keeps popping up on Twitter called CUPLA What a fabulous name for a Rock Band, Cupla is an Irish word for Twins, Hence the band consists of twins Bobby & Billy McAloney ( Guitar & Drums), Trish McAloney is the singer in the band, Andrew(Lead guitar), and Travis Rankin (Bass).

The Band has sexy vocals and a driving sound that bends the ear in the right direction, Although they are from Canada, They have an Irish connection as family members are in Ireland!  Songs are, Blacktop Blues, By Chance, And Formerly Known, are just three of their songs, So Keep an eye out for this band , They are really good!

Andy Gibson , Country singer etc.

Andy Gibson got an early start on his musical journey – starting with a cigar box and rubber band made guitar at age six followed by his first real guitar at age nine. And as the fourth of five children, you can imagine there would always be noise in the Gibson household – in fact there was always music. His dad (John Gibson) was just fourteen when he wrote the theme song for the classic surfing film Endless Summer, and later earned a deal with RCA Records. Whether it was his dad’s music or Waylon Jennings, It made him a great country singer as he is today, SO, Andy Gibson's Music career begun, When I read these words above which were taken from his website, I just had to listen to his new song, The song is tittled "Wanna' make you love me" and is a great sounding country song, I don't normally go for country music, But this is great stuff, Really nice vocals and superb guitar playing indeed!

Going back in time

I thought I must go back in time with a band called The Shadows,  They started in the late 1950s and was originally called The Drifters, But had to change the name as the American Drifters were not happy about the name duplication! So the Shadows was born, Backing a man called Cliff Richard ( Harry Webb) , They started something really big! Little did they know how big they would end up!  With records like , I love you, Move It, Theme fore a dream, Apache, FBI, Contiki, Wonderful Land, The list goes on and on, The Shadows became legends in their own right with Hank Marvin leading the band which was Bruce Welch, Jet Harris And Tony Meeham, The sound was so great that almost everything that they released was a hit, The Shadows was my Idols at the time , And I wanted to play like Hank Marvin as did all kids of that era, What a great Band!  

Tribute to David Jones

I am sad about the news of David Jones death this week! I  will always remember the first song that made me listen to the Monkeys, It was  Last Train to Clarcksville, I actually thought that it was the good old Beatles that was singing until the man on the radio said that it was in fact the Monkeys. They were a great band  that was in the direct competition with the Beatles, David Jones was a good singer and will be sadly missed !

Higher than Pope Music project

I have just come across a sound that is so very

different, It is called HIGHER THAN POPE,  an alternative progressive Electronic Rock project,  It consists of a guy called BOB so it seems! Check this sound out as it is great and as I said before its Different! Higher than Pope is from Salt Lake City, Utah, Nice sound Guys!

Alamantra Band

This entry is about a band called ALAMANTRA,
 They are what I would call a soft metal band! But don't get me wrong , They sound great, Their sound reminds me of the Eagles with a twist of country rock' The Music is nicely arranged and is well played with nice guitar playing and nice vocals, A band well worth listening to , some of the songs are as follows,
Bread, Ajarah Jam, Move on, Spaces, Will hear etc, The band started in Birmingham ,Alabama
in 2000, Members are, Bobby Shiflett ( Guitar),
Rick Glaze (Bass), Brandon Allison ( Drums ),

and Steve Casteel (Guitar ).  The name Alamantra is Latin for Wing and a prayer !  I am sure we will be hearing a lot more from this band !
